September 30, 2008 --

It was a day that I will never forget. It was a day full of hope, understanding, determination and strength. It was a day when people came out determined to make people aware of a condition that very few know about. They came in car loads, with them came their families, friends and neighbors. Their spirits were high and the donation sheets were full. Some traveled just a few miles while others came from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to share the day with us. Each one of them came for a different reason but one thing was the common denominator. HOPE. Each person there was full of hope, hope that what they were about to do was going to make a difference in their lives or in the people they care about lives. So we gathered over 150 strong we shared the great news of Conquer Chiari’s success up until that moment and we walked together for three miles talking to the people in front, back and on the side of us. We learned a lot from each other’s experiences, and offered a shoulder to lean on when the mental burden got to be too much. After the walk many stayed at the park for hours just to give each other some piece of mind or to chat about how we were going to make next years walk even better. The day was a huge relief for many. For many it was the first time in a long time that they could meet with others who knew what they were going through. Who have already been down the same path. Michiganders came out on September 20, 2008 and they came out strong and graciously donated close to $6000.00 dollars on that day alone. At the end of the day almost everyone saying that they will see each other next year and that they were going to bring even more friends next year as well. I could not possibly have asked for a better outcome for the 1st annual Conquer Chiari Walk across America Michigan Edition! I want to say thank you one more time to everyone who shared the day with us and extend a warm welcome to those who are reading this now and want to join us next year!
